We provide low-cost assistance with a variety of software and desktop maintenance and repair problems, including:
For hardware repairs, we service Apple and Dell computers (for both warranty and out-of-warranty work). If you have a different brand of computer, check with other local community resources or work directly with your computer's vendor.
For support services, we continue to offer walk-in service for all types of computers.
Only eligible University of Michigan students, staff, and faculty members can use this service. Please note that the support service is currently offered to individuals only (not departments). Once the ITCS hardware repair service is in place (Summer 2008), we hope to be able to offer a full suite of services to departments as well as individuals.
All work is done on the premises at the U-M Computer Showcase. You should bring your laptop or desktop CPU, laptop power adapter, and all appropriate software (operating system software and/or application software) to the Showcase during regular business hours. You will need to leave these items with us. Sorry, but we are not able to offer pick-up or delivery at this time.
This service operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Repairs and installations can take anywhere from one to five business days, depending on the number and type of requests in the queue. You may wish to call ahead to see how busy we are, but our best estimate can only be made at the time of check in, since requests for service can fluctuate on short notice.
All software must be licensed directly to the customer. If your work request includes the installation of new software (such as an OS upgrade), you can usually purchase the software from us at a reduced educational price at the time you place your request. Call in advance or check our website if you want to check the availability of specific software.
Customers will be asked to fill out a work order that includes a liability waiver at the time the request is made. We encourage you to read the contract carefully. Payment is due at the time of pick-up.
The cost of this service is $30 per hour, with a $15 minimum charge. If you are unsure about the nature of your problem, we can test your machine (for a fee of $30) and provide a cost estimate before any repair work is done.

* As a precautionary measure, we strongly encourage all customers to back up their personal files, whenever possible, PRIOR to bringing a system in for repair. We take all appropriate precautions, but the possibility exists that some data could inadvertently be lost during the course of some repairs. Please protect your personal files!
Payment can be made with cash, check or credit card.
(P-cards, and American Express are not accepted.)
It is not always possible to diagnose the source of a problem at first glance. If we discover that your computer problems are hardware-related, we'll stop work and notify you. In some cases, you may be charged the minimum fee of $30.
