Welcome to Michigan

Welcome to Michigan Sale!

This popular sale allows new students (first-year, transfer or grad students) who will be on the Ann Arbor campus between June 8 and August 6 to pre-order products for pick-up during that time. If you need only some items, are coming to campus later, or are a returning student, please consider purchasing Showcase products on an à la carte basis.

We're pleased to offer a selection of Apple and Dell computers. All of our systems come with extended (3-year) warranty. The Dells feature either Vista Ultimate or Business operating system and Macs come with Apple's 10.5 Leopard OS.

Our optional Basic Bundle (Windows or Mac) includes:

We're also featuring an Power Bundle you may want to consider. Please review the contents in the product section below.

Apple's Back to School Promotion

Students who purchase any of the Mac computers in our "Welcome to Michigan" packages qualify for Apple's iPod touch promotion. Basically, you're required to purchase the device of your choice on the same invoice as your computer then file for a rebate (up to $229 on the iPod touch or other amounts on other iPods) from Apple. If you wish to participate, don't worry about adding the iPod to your order: we'll keep plenty on-hand so you can simply make your selection when you pick up your package. Read all about it!

Placing a Pre-Order

Our goal is to have our packages available for pick up during new student orientation (June 8–August 6). We encourage you to submit your request well in advance of your visit so that we can order enough products to satisfy demand. We do not accept pre-payment; you will be expected to pay in full (cash, check, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard) when you come to the Showcase.

Please bring your University ID (Mcard) with you, as you will need to sign a licensing agreement for your Microsoft software.

Parents who are paying for or picking up products should come to the Showcase with the student unless special arrangements for payment or pick-up have been made in advance. (Please see our purchasing information page for more details.)

We try to keep all of our featured computers in stock but it is not always possible due to vendor supply and shipping complications. Please accept our apologies if your first choice of computer is temporarily out of stock.

Pick-Up and Cancellations

Welcome packages must be ordered by July 24 and picked up at the Computer Showcase by August 6. All transactions take place at the U-M Computer Showcase on the ground level of the Michigan Union. Sorry, we cannot ship these bundles: you must be present to pick up.

If you need to cancel your request, please send e-mail from your U-M mail account to computer.showcase@umich.edu. Orders that are not claimed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of the requested week will automatically be cancelled.

Changes and Additions

Our vendor partners typically begin offering new products in late spring and continue throughout the summer. Therefore, we may add new models to our line-up as they become available. Please note that prices will not increase between the time an online request is placed and the products are picked up.

Comparable Prices and New Choices After August 1

Buying later in the summer or early in the fall is certainly an option for incoming students. Our "Back-to-School" sale starts August 4. This sale is open to all eligible members of the U-M community and will offer products at prices comparable to our "Welcome" sale. Please note all items will be sold on an à la carte basis after July 24.

If a vendor releases new products or upgrades in late July or August we will feature them in our Back-to-School sale. It is not unusual for us to experience mid-summer product changes.

A Note About Windows Operating Systems

If you are shopping for a Windows notebook, please be aware that U-M recommends the following operating systems: XP Pro, Vista Ultimate or Vista Business. We offer Vista Ultimate on DVD ($20) for users who wish to upgrade from XP Pro or another version of Vista. We also sell an "upgrade" (not full) version of XP Pro under our license agreement with Microsoft.
